Su Li for [info]loslimod

out of character.

name: Brandi
dob & age: 1/29/84 ; 24
contact: aim: brandied plum; e-mail: garnet.sunrise@gmail.com; CDJ: [info]zombiephile

in character.

name: Su Hye Li (anglicized; Li Su Hye in the traditional Korean)
dob & age: August 16, 1980; 22 (turning 23 next month)
occupation: Actress; plays the character Jung Iseul Kwan on the TV programme Port Merwyn, a spin-off of the WWN serial Timeturner Tales (on which Su acted prior to the start of PM, and still occasionally returns to)
current residence: The Parkchester, flat 1
school/house & graduating year: Ravenclaw, 1991 - 1998
family:
  • Father: Hwan Sung Li; b. December 3, 1955; Healer at St. Mungo's (Artifact Accidents); half-blood
  • Mother: Yoon Hye Li (born Yoon Hye Kim); b. March 19, 1958; housewife; half-blood

affiliation: Team Harry Potter
political stance: Basically, Su is opposed to everything that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named stood for, seeing as she is a half-blood herself. She likes the idea that everyone is the same, and admires Harry Potter for standing up against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

personality: To say that Su is over-dramatic would be like saying that a hurricane is a bit of a nice breeze. Everything is the end of the world, even something so "small" as a zit or a hangnail. She is bursting full of emotions, and she almost seems to have a disorder, given how quickly she can move from one to another. Of course, for an actress who might have to cry on cue, or get angry, or get happy, all at the drop of a hat. Indeed, Su is quite skilled at turning emotions on and off for her character, and she is all chipper smiles for her fans.

She also absolutely loves the attention and fame that she gets as an actress. Being recognised on the street as Jung is the highlight of her life, and that's only from people recognising her from the promotional pictures for the show; she is positive that, now that everyone can actually see her acting, she will become even more famous. When she was younger, she used to practice writing her autograph, and she is always happy to pose for pictures with fans and sign autographs. Su is completely and totally enraptured with the attention, even if it means occasionally being interrupted when she's out.

When she's not all caught up in being famous (or being an over-emotional drama queen), Su is actually quite a sweet girl. She isn't completely shallow and vain, despite how she might appear to people who don't know her well. She donates a portion of her salary to charities that help those who were affected by the war, and she would love to do a benefit to help St. Mungo's. This is another reason why she is happy to stop to chat with fans or get her picture taken or sign an autograph: because she is happy to make them happy; after all, she wouldn't be where she is now without her fans.

Of course, as a former Ravenclaw, Su has a love of knowledge, but not necessarily a deep and penetrating knowlege of one or two subjects in particular. Rather, Su loves and adores trivia. She likes learning new little tidbits and facts about the most random things. She is also immensely creative, which has helped her with her acting. She really works hard to get into character, even going so far as to occasionally surround herself with the kinds of things that Jung would. And, although she absolutely loves her role on Timeturner Tales and Port Merwyn, she also wouldn't mind the opportunity to stretch her acting wings and try out another role (so long as it didn't conflict with her role on the soaps, but perhaps a play or something during breaks from taping the show).

history: Hwan Sung Li and Yoon Hye Kim were both half-blood Koreans living in London, and as the community was so small, the Li and Kim families knew each other, and their parents arranged their marriage in 1978, when Yoon was twenty and Hwan was twenty-two. They actually married in summer of 1979, and it was barely a year later that daughter Su was born. The family lived in relative peace and quiet as Su was growing up, with Yoon staying home to care for Su while Hwan worked at St. Mungo's. With You-Know-Who gone, there was little to worry about beyond what they wanted Su to do when she grew up. Like all parents, they wanted her to be the best she could be, and in their eyes, that was for her to be a Healer.

When Su went off to Hogwarts, though, she knew that Healing was not what she wanted for herself. Just the thought of blood and sick people made her queasy. She hated going to the hospital wing if she was sick, in case there were other sick people there. Oftentimes, her friends had to veritably drag her there to be fixed up. She was always overly dramatic about all of it, and she likely annoyed her housemates by tuning into the wireless weekly for her favourite soap, Timeturner Tales, one of the longest-running serials on the WWN, having started in 1974. Despite being a Ravenclaw, she was never wholly interested in her classes. Oh, she loved knowledge just like every other Ravenclaw, but she was more interested in trivia. Her goal was never really to bog herself down with tons of classes or earn a bunch of O.W.L.s, but rather to just learn and move on.

Her school years passed more or less unremarkably. She tended to be quiet, but became known as a bit of a drama queen at times. Her only real ambition, which anyone who knew her would hear all about, was to become an actress. Her dream of all dreams, naturally, was to get a role on Timeturner Tales. There was nothing else that Su wanted in her life, so when it came time for her seventh year, as she had just turned seventeen years old, she opted to not return to school, though the decision was actually made mostly for her by the unrest in the wizarding world and the fact that she was a half-blood. Her parents agreed that they did not want her returning to a dangerous environment, particularly with Albus Dumbledore having just died, so they opted to have Su finish her education at home, with her mother teaching her all that she would need to know to take her N.E.W.T.s. As a result, Su did not know about the war at Hogwarts until after everything was over, and she waited nervously for news of her friends, whether they had lived or died. She mourned those friends who had died, but rejoiced in the fact that Harry Potter once again vanquished the Dark Lord, this time seemingly for good.

Shortly before she was set to sit for her N.E.W.T.s that summer, Su heard on the wireless that Timeturner Tales was looking to add a new character to their cast, the god-daughter of one of the main families on the soap's canvas, the Sprechers (Brennan and Sitti Sprecher part of a favoured family on the soap; Brennan is a Aethonon breeder), who would be moving in with them following the death of her parents in the war. Utterly thrilled, Su begged to be allowed to audition, and Hwan and Yoon ultimately relented, under the condition that she sit for her N.E.W.T.s regardless. To her delight, she won the role, and in September of 1998, the new character of Jung Iseul Kwan was added to Timeturner Tales. Jung slowly ingratiated herself among the characters and fans, while Su delighted in being able to work with her heroes and get her own taste of stardom. Her big break came in late 2002, when Jung fell for mob enforcer Callum Hughes. Fans went crazy over the pairing of the emotional and relatively naive Jung with the stoic and worldly Callum.

In early 2003, murmurings began being heard around the studio about a spin-off of Timeturner Tales, focused mostly upon the mob and those connected to it. Rumors began flying when it was mentioned that the show would be broadcast not on the wireless, but instead on the new technology that was coming into being, the Television. It was finally confirmed that a spin-off, which would be called Port Merwyn, after the name of the fictional town in northeast England in which Timeturner Tales was set (the town itself was named after Merwyn the Malicious). Su was completely thrilled that Jung was to be brought over to the spin-off with the rest of the mob, and even more thrilled to know that the production staff would be much the same for both shows, and that she would be occasionally returning to Timeturner Tales for crossovers.

Once Su had begun making enough money on Timeturner Tales to support herself, she moved out of her parents' house in London and into a flat on Diagon Alley. When A Knight's Walk, the new offshoot to Diagon Alley, opened in 2003, she moved to a new, more luxury flat on the new street, believing that, now that she was to be a television starlet, she ought to be living in style and luxury.

samples.

first person: Oh, this is positively fabulous! Now, keep in mind that you did not hear this from me, but it's entirely possible that Jung will be hit by a hex meant for Callum. Don't worry, it won't be anything completely horrible, but it will definitely be dramatic. I so love that the writers are giving me this wonderful material to really sink my teeth into. Jung has grown so much as a character since Port Merwyn started, and if any of you reading this aren't watching ... well, why not? It's an amazing show, if I do say so myself, and even the blokes will enjoy it.

Warded Private.

Once the show is a bit older and we have more costumes and props that won't be used again, we should have a charity auction. Auction off anything that we won't be needing anymore to fans of the show, and then donate the proceeds to charity. I still think that it would be wonderful to start a charity for children who lost one or both parents during the war. Although I luckily lost neither of my parents, that is how Jung ended up on the show, and I want to show my support for those who have had to go through what she has.

End Ward.

third person: As much as Su adored filming for her television programme, she also greatly adored having days off. It gave her a chance to go shopping, for one thing, but she also had more time to wander around A Knight's Walk and Diagon Alley without worrying about rushing off to the studio, which allowed for more chances for people to recognise her and stop her in the street. She knew that some of the older actors and actresses on both Timeturner Tales and Port Merwyn hated being recognised and stopped on the street, Su absolutely loved it.

So, after checking herself in the mirror to ensure that she looked entirely presentable -- and getting a "oh, very lovely, dear!" comment from the mirror -- she hung her handbag from the crook of her elbow and made her way out onto the street, the heels of her boots clicking against the ground. Her black hair (straight today) bounced loose around her shoulders, and the short royal blue skirt and blue-and-white-striped blouse accentuated her lightly tanned skin nicely, not to mention that the skirt showed off her long legs.

As she walked, Su toyed idly with one of the long silver necklaces that were draped around her neck. There wasn't anything in particular that she was looking to buy today, so she would be perfectly content with simply wandering down the street and window-shopping. It was a lovely day, after all, far too lovely to be cooped up inside somewhere. Su paused in front of a shoppe, gazing through the window at the wares on display. Then again, a bit of actual shopping never hurt anyone. She was about to turn to step into the shop when she heard her name being called, so she instead turned in the direction from which she heard her name, a smile on her face, ready to greet whoever was calling her.

blurb: Always a dramatic young girl, Su pursued acting and was rewarded with a job on her favourite WWN soap, Timeturner Tales when she was eighteen. After becoming a favoured character on the show, she was included in the new spin-off that only just began at the beginning of July in 2003 on television. She's still dramatic and sweet, but beneath the attention-loving shell lies a benevolent heart that still breaks for the friends lost in the war and donates a proceed of her salary to charities that help those affected by the war.
plans for the character: I'd love it if she could start her own charity at some point (as noted in her sample journal entry), since she's a very charitable person. Perhaps for children who lost one or both parents in the war, or just people in general who lost family members. Other than that, I don't really have much ideas at the moment.
