For in-school games (such as, say, a MWPP-era game), which do you prefer when you see a cast list?

A few canon characters placed (but moveable if their house/year isn't stated), but everything else is just [open] for you to insert unlisted canon characters, or trio-era kiddos' parents, or OCs, or such.

A full list with canon names and also not-necessarily-canon names that could potentially be changed, but you can't really move, say, Dorcas Meadowes from House A to House B, or from 6th year to 7th year.

	ANOTHER THOUGHT WHEN IT COMES TO CLASS LISTS FOR MWPP ERA HOGWARTS GAMES: if it is going to be the Marauders' 7th year, there should be like... basically no other future Order members available. :x maybe like one or two, but I end up turned off when I see everyone the same age as James/Sirius/Remus/Peter/etc. (Reply to this) (Thread)

In recent years, that's definitely started to get to me, too. I mean, Dumbles wouldn't have filled his ranks with kids. In post-school games, I def think most of the Order members ought to be older than MWPP. I'm a little more willing to suspend belief for school games, though, because the Order and DEs are the more popular MWPP-era characters.

(though just for the purposes of this hypothetical poll that has no bearing on anything, really, it'd be a MWPP 5th year game. yeah, even sixth and seventh year Order members would be close in age to MWPP, but at least it's something? And it's not like it'd be the entire Order. Or all the DEs, either.)

see, I'm all for more realism, and I don't really want to suspend that much disbelief even for popular characters! ;) If I wanted to play Order members, I'm really going to be looking for a game set during 1979-1980, rather than 1976 and at school.

(yeah, that's a little better, but I'd definitely still want to see some limitations so that you can see where the Order comes about in the future. we have enough information on certain characters that, in my opinion, need to be quite a bit older in order to fit what JKR has said about them. likewise with DEs! Voldie wasn't filling his ranks with 20 year old kids! more likely you'd have children or younger brothers of DEs on that cast list, which gives players some more freedom!)

	For me, it depends on the era. In Trio era, I prefer a filled out classlist, but in earlier eras, it makes more sense to give people some flexibility with names, if not with Houses. However, I'm sorry to say that a school-related MWPP game holds no interest for me, so my opinion may be irrelevant to you! (Reply to this) (Thread)

Not being able to change someone around really turns me off of a game. Even if a game looks great and they have say...Benjy as a Gryffindor and I can't move him, I'm going to pass up on it. Because my Benjy is a Ravenclaw, and I can't rewrite him into another house. If it's canon characters who have a canon year and house? Yeah, okay, they shouldn't be moved, unless it's an AU game. No one is going to make Bellatrix a Hufflepuff, or at least they shouldn't, no matter how utterly insanely loyal she is. (Emphasis on the insane.) But characters who don't have a set year? Let them move, unless there's a good reason why they're there.
