random post is random
I'm working on organizing things for a WiP I've been working on, and I've come to realize something.

One of the things I'm working on is creating a template for character information sheets for the work. And writing up the template, figuring out what I want to know about my characters, is a helluva lot like writing up an application form for a new game.

Which is really making me want to find PBs for the characters for this. XD I already have one in mind for the MC, but still.

So, because I'm thinking about creating applications and filling them out and stuff like that, I ask unto you because I'm curious:
- What are you favorite parts in an application to fill out?
- Least favorite parts?
- Is there anything in particular you think is usually "lacking" from application forms?
- Anything else you want to say about that whole pesky "applying" business you have to do to join games?

I hate filling out likes/dislikes/turn ons/turn offs because I always feel like I don't have enough. And if it's a brand new character I'm constantly adding when I find things they like or dislike in-game.

I REALLY like filling out "list 3 random things" in applications, because I think it lets you go deeper into the character and create some headcanon. Yes you can add some randomness to their personality or history section, but you also don't want it to be crazy long.

I understand the need for applications, but I also hate them. They don't show a writer's capabilities / how active they are / if they'll flake / etc. I lovelovelove journal replies in games, and there isn't really a chance to show the type of things your character might say in applications. IDK I think it would be interesting to have an in-character application every now and again. But then again, when I'm creating a brand new character, I also like the application process to help me understand who they are.

While I'm getting better at personalities, I still find it hard to write them sometimes. I feel like just a few paragraphs won't fully sum up a character, only playing the character will do that.

Though what I have seen is that in the personality section some applications have questions you can answer as that character. Which i think is a brilliant idea as you're writing it gives you a chance take a look inside your character on how they would react to different situations.

Ooh, thank you! ♥ I knew someone else had been asking about people's thoughts on applications ages ago, but couldn't remember who / when! :D

I wouldn't have remembered either, but I happened to be redoing my tagging and came across it!
