It's kinda interesting when you discover something about a character that is completely opposite of what you'd thought. Back last September / October when I was doing those 30 Days of RP memes (which ... it occurred to me as I was looking through them this morning that I never finished the second one; maybe I'll go back and finish it now), one of the questions was about characters I've made more than once. The last one on the list is Sally-Anne Perks, who I played in four games with
serendipitist's Nate Cadwallader. I even said right there in my blurb about her that I didn't think I could play her again without Liz's Nate, considering how much I absolutely had the two of them connected in my head. I mean, to me, it'd be like watching Jamie play Lisa Turpin without Kate's Seamus Finnigan, or vice versa.
But then this past December, I joined
sixdegreesrpg, and I really wanted to play Sally again. Like, I was seriously missing her, and with WAH and DMR both being a bit more on the dark side of things, I just needed someone who was happy, and Sally was always one of my happier characters. But, of course, without Nate in the equation, a lot of her history had to change. I completely took out the Africa thing, so she no longer had that in her history of the job that sent her all over the world with little warning beyond "hey there's something happening in [place], grab your camera and go!" No broken engagement, no months of awkwardness when she got home. In its place, a miscarriage and a wariness of getting too close to someone for fear of it happening again (it's a well-documented fact that I like my characters with Issues, okay? okay).
So anyway. All those other four games? Sally has cultivated a hate for travel, stemming from that job that sent her all over the place. She'd much rather just stay home, stay close to her family and friends. Like, traveling for fun or going on vacation with her loved ones just doesn't occur to her, she just very much associates traveling with work and being away from everybody and it just being a big pain in the butt.
But then this weekend, her BFFs Hannah Abbott and Wayne Hopkins got married and went off to New Zealand for their honeymoon, and Hannah shared some pictures from the beach yesterday, and when they finally loaded (jfc internets, you have been sucky for days!) last night, it was like all of a sudden Sally sat up in my head and was like, "I wanna go somewhere like that! I wanna travel!" And I was like "... but you hate travel!" And then I realized that it was the old her who hated travel. It was the Sally who had the history of that crappy job (which I promised her I wouldn't make her get when she was fired from the Prophet last month) that hated traveling. This Sally, over at Six Degrees ... she has no reason at all to hate travel, and since it's something she's never really done before, she has every reason in the world to actually be interested in it. When it's done properly, of course.
So now she's interested in travel. xD Which is an interesting development. Maybe she and Ollie can go somewhere when he has a break from Quidditch. Or something. All I know is, suddenly the girl wants to go places and take pictures. And not for work, but for fun. :D
