lol, what
Oh, I just love it when a character just starts arguing with you in your head. Or, well, I was arguing. He was just being annoying.
See, I'm applying for Geoffrey Hooper over at
wah_mods. He's a sixth year Gryff, and the only canon he has is that he tried out for the Gryff quidditch team (Keeper) in the trio's 5th year and even though he flew better than Ron, Angie said he was a whiner. Which gives me a lot of freedom to play with.
So today, I'm working on his app, and this conversation ensued:
Me: Okay, Geoff. What classes are you taking this year? *pulls up the class schedule*
Him: Ooh. Okay. Um. Monday. Charms, definitely. Put me down for Charms! And Tuesday, well, I have to take Muggle Studies and Dark Arts. Wednesday, put me down for Transfiguration! I like the classes that are more active. You know, doing stuff. OH, Thursday, do Herbology and CoMC, I like being outside for class and discovering all the cool, interesting animals that Hagrid shows us. And Muggle Studies, since I have to. I didn't take it ever before, but that doesn't matter since it's now required. I hope I don't have to take it next year. OKAY. FRIDAY. Potions and Dark Arts. AND OKAY, that's it!
Me: *putting them down in his app as he's listing them off. pauses, counts* Dude, you're taking seven classes.
Him: So? The thingie down there at the bottom says 5-7 classes! So 7's fine!
Me: Are you particularly studious? Do you want to spend all your free time in the library? Plus, you're a prefect and you already told me you want to do dueling club.
Him: ...
Me: Drop a class.
Him: But I need all of them!
Me: You need all of them? You need Dark Arts and Muggle Studies, yes, but you need all of the other five? For what?
Him: I want to be an Auror!
Me: ... you do? Since when?
Him: You're the one who has a habit of turning your Gryffindors into Aurors.
Me: I DO NOT.
Him: How many of your Gryffindors have either wanted to become Aurors, or actually were? And you have to count both Keira and Audrey, because they both wanted that in school, too.
Me: ...
Him: Go ahead, go count. I'll wait.
Me: You're my character, I don't have to answer to you.
Him: That bad, huh?
Me: Shut up. You're a whiner, why do you want to be an Auror?
Him: I'm big on helping the underdog, right? And I'm all sorts of pissed about my roommates being gone and I want to do something about it, but I'm not exactly going to go charging in and fight without a plan, and that's a good quality for someone who wants to be an Auror. Look at it this way, I probably won't get my leg destroyed like Thomas did, or go crazy like Marlene did--
Marlene (butting in as usual): HEY
Him: --and I have very high standards of moral integrity. And I'd be awesome at it.
Me: And the whining? It's going to be a lot of work. You got whingey at quidditch tryouts.
Him: It was a bad day for me. And Angie was just blowing it out of proportion. I wasn't whining that much.
Me: You know that when I played your daughter, you were in the Dept of Magical Games and Sports.
Him: Hey, that wouldn't be that bad of a back-up plan if I don't get into the Auror programme. But that was also before you knew me, and you were just pulling that out of your arse based entirely on the fact that I tried out for the Gryffindor quidditch team once. You need to get more creative in assigning random occupations to your character's family members. You can't just hold me to what you randomly picked for the parent of a character you played, what, three years ago?
Me: ... okay, fine. You can be an Auror wannabe. Welcome to the club, apparently there is one.
Him: Yay!
Me: But you still need to drop a class. You're going to go crazy if you take seven. You can whinge about having to drop one of your classes to take Muggle Studies. Since you're such a whiner.
Him: But I don't wanna.
Me: See? You're whining.
Him: I am not.
Me: Okay, right now, you're taking Charms, Muggle Studies, Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, and Potions. Dark Arts and Muggle Studies are required. They recommend Charms, Transfiguration, and Potions for the Auror programme. Drop either Herbology or Care of Magical Creatures. How about Herbology, since you seemed more stoked about CoMC?
Him: But I need Herbology!
Me: ... no you don't. It's not required for the Auror programme, and it's not even one of the recommended ones.
Him: But there's a reason you always stick your Auror-wannabes in Herbology. It's a good class to take with potions, because you can learn a lot about plants and how to care for them and grow your own plants that you could then turn around and use in potions. It's essential.
Me: Fine, drop CoMC and whinge about how you had to drop it to take Muggle Studies.
Him: I don't want to.
Me: You're whining again.
Him: FINE. I'll drop CoMC. But I'm not happy about it!
Me: That's the spirit!
... yeah, getting the rest of his app written is going to be interesting.
(I'm not crazy. Really.)
