Geoffrey Hooper for [info]wah_mods
Out of Character Information
Name: Brandi
Email/AIM: garnet.sunrise @ gmail ; brandied plum on AIM
Timezone: CST
Experience: Your mom
CDJ: [info]zombiephile

In Character Information
Name: Geoffrey Alexander Hooper Jr
Birthday & Age: 16; 17 May, 1981
Bloodstatus: Half-blood
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Affiliation: Anti-Voldemort/Anti-War; Geoff knows full well why two of his roommates didn't return to school this year, and he doesn't like it. He also doesn't like that his parents and littlest sister are in Canada to keep his mother safe. He doesn't like it one bit. He doesn't like the Carrows' and Malfoy's goons' bullying. And as much as he might desperately want to fight back, he also knows that it's important to keep people on the side of "good" in positions of power: if he loses his Prefect badge, it'll go to somebody in the Carrowses pockets. And he won't let that happen, even though ever fibre of his being is yelling at him to be the hero.

House & Year: Gryffindor sixth year
Activities: Prefect, Dueling Club, Skyward Students(?)
Class Schedule:
  • Monday: Charms (9-10:50)
  • Tuesday: Muggle Studies (9-10:50); Dark Arts (1-2:50)
  • Wednesday: Transfiguration (1-2:50)
  • Thursday: Herbology (9-10:50); Care of Magical Creatures (1-1:50); Muggle Studies (3-3:50)
  • Friday: Potions (9-10:50); Dark Arts (3-3:50)
Geoffrey had to drop Care of Magical Creatures in order to take Muggle Studies. He is just grateful that he didn't have to drop one of his other classes, because he has ambitions of being an Auror, and all his other classes, save Herbology, are the required/recommended NEWTs.

Hometown: Bideford, Devon, England
Family:
  • Father: Geoffrey Alexander Hooper Sr; half-blood; Ravenclaw 1978; magical archaeologist (currently in Canada "on a dig")
  • Mother: Laura Elaine Hooper née Spearson; muggleborn; Ravenclaw 1978; housewife (currently in Canada, "accompanying her husband on a dig")
  • Brother: Christopher Hooper; half-blood; Gryffindor 3rd year
  • Sister: Sadie Hooper; half-blood; Hufflepuff 1st year
  • Sister: Louisa Hooper; half-blood; 9 years old (currently in Canada, "accompanying her parents on her father's dig")
Personal History:
Geoffrey Hooper and Laura Spearson met at Hogwarts. There weren't any particular sparks or fireworks, they were just two students sorted into the same house in the same year. They were friends up through their sixth year, when Geoffrey decided to ask Laura on a date, just to see if they could maybe be more than friends. One date in Hogsmeade turned into walks around the castle, stolen kisses in the corridors and the common room, holidays spent visiting each other and apparating all over (once they got their licenses) for dates anywhere from London to Dublin to Edinburgh. Two years after they finished at Hogwarts, while Geoffrey was an apprentice with a magical archaeologist, they got married, settled in a small home in Bideford, and immediately set to work on starting a family.

Their first son was named after his father: Geoffrey Alexander Hooper Jr. He was born in May of 1981, just shy of a year after his parents were married. Three more children followed within the next few years: another son Christopher and two daughters, Sadie and Lousia. The children were mostly raised by Laura, since Geoffrey Sr was often out on digs or locked away in his office doing research as he went for his mastery. A muggleborn who lived through the first war, Laura was quick to instill in all four children how blood status is not important and it's who you are as a person that really matters. Geoff took his mother's words to heart. With his dad frequently gone, Geoff stepped into the position of Man Of The House, even from a young age, helping his mother with his younger siblings and protecting them. If ever they were picked on at primary school, he would step in. Right from the start, he knew that he wanted to do something that would help people. He wanted to champion for the underdog, stand up for the little guy, be the hero.

It was no surprise to anyone who knew Geoff that he was sorted into Gryffindor when he went off to Hogwarts in 1992. Geoff was more excited about his sorting than he really let on, because he knew that THE Harry Potter was a Gryffindor. He was going to be sharing a common room with THE Harry Potter. Only a year older than Geoff, and already a hero. Of course, he didn't worship Harry quite as much as, say, Colin did, but he was happy to tell his new roommate everything he knew about THE Harry Potter. Of course, that first year at Hogwarts wasn't exactly what Geoff had been expecting. The chamber of secrets was opened (though Geoff didn't know what a chamber of secrets was) and Colin was petrified, along with several other students. But Harry Potter The Hero came to the rescue, and Geoff knew then that he wanted to be a hero, too.

Second year wasn't too much better, with Sirius Black on the loose and dementors in the castle. He took it upon himself to assure the first years that everything would be fine and to just stay calm, Sirius Black was not going to murder them in their sleep, and the dementors would not come eat their souls while they slept, either. (No, he didn't plant those ideas in their heads! If they were worried about it, he assured them that it wouldn't happen.) After the previous two years, Geoff was glad that his third year seemed to be going fine, with the tournament and all. He wished he was old enough to enter, but after having seen the first task, he was glad he wasn't, because he knew logically that he was not experienced enough to handle the tasks. He was also torn in who to cheer for: Cedric Diggory was supposed to be the Hogwarts champion, and he was old enough to have legally entered. But Harry Potter was in his house, he was a hero, ... but he had somehow found a way to cheat and get his name in. Though his love of Quidditch made him want to root for Krum, too, because he was a famous Quidditch star. And, well, Fleur was so pretty, he wanted to root for her, too. So in the end, he just decided to root that none of them die. Unfortunately, one of them did: Cedric Diggory. He didn't know what to think, with Harry Potter yelling that you-know-who was back, and the Headmaster obviously believed him, but then everyone in the media was calling him a liar all summer.

Fourth year brought his least favourite of the Defense teachers (even worse than the hairbrained Lockhart): Dolores Umbridge. He wanted to do something practical with Defense, not just read the book in class. When he said as much (and that just sitting and reading was stupid), he got detention writing lines with her special quill. He couldn't help but whinge to his friends about it, because the cuts on his arm hurt. Yeah, he'd have to deal with worse as an Auror, he knew, but this was just inhuman torture and nobody should have to deal with it. Fifth year also brought his first chance to try out for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and though he flew well, he couldn't help but whine about the bright sun in his eyes, his hair getting in his eyes, and his scarred arm hurt. Unfortunately, it was this whining that kept him from being chosen as Keeper, as it annoyed the Captain, Angelina. Mostly, Geoff was disappointed that he lost out on being on the team with the Harry Potter, and he was mostly whining because he was so nervous about the tryouts. He was still a fan, and still watched all the matches. And, well, that same year, he'd been named Gryffindor prefect, and he had OWLs to study for, so joining the Quidditch team was probably not the best idea anyway.

The end of fifth year brought the dreaded OWLs, but also the death of the Headmaster. Geoffrey was horrified, and he almost didn't want to come back to school in the fall. He wanted to stay home and keep Christopher (who had joined him during Geoffrey's third year) and Sadie (who would be starting Hogwarts that fall) home, too. Of course, all that fell apart with the muggleborn registration, which (after having seen some of their muggleborn friends go in to register and not return) led Geoffrey Sr and Laura to flee to Canada with Louisa. The announcement that attendance at Hogwarts was to be compulsory for all students of Hogwarts age led Geoff, Christopher, and Sadie to finish up the summer at Geoffrey Sr's brother's home until they went off to Hogwarts. Luckily, they weren't pulled off the train, but Geoff was sure that they would be safe once they returned to Hogwarts.

Safety wasn't much of an illusion. Not even two full months into the new school year, and Geoff is already counting down the days until the end of the school year, when he, Christopher, and Sadie could hopefully join their parents in Canada. All three Hoopers were careful to not say where their parents and little sister had gone off to, but unfortunately, with the Carrows checking the students' mail, it also meant that they weren't getting letters from their parents, so Geoff, Christopher, and Sadie were left to worry about whether their parents and Louisa were even still safe.

Played-By: Michael Angarano (icons)
Signature Style: Geoff Hooper
Signature Font: Tall Paul
Distinguishing Features: A little bit of extra weight, longish brown hair, a bit of a large-ish nose, a small collection of scars all over his left shin from when he tripped over a glass-topped table and it shattered and cut up his leg, scars on his right arm from Umbridge's quill.

DH-Canon: No DH-canon on Geoffrey at all!

Common Knowledge:
  1. When he was eleven, his mother knitted him a red stocking cap. It faded to pink the first time it was washed. He still wears it as it gets cold out, anyway.
  2. He tried out for Gryffindor Keeper in his 4th year, and though he flew better than Ron Weasley, he wasn't chosen because he was a whiner and complainer. He'll claim that he was just having a bad day, that day.
  3. He loves watching Quidditch matches at school, listening to professional Quidditch matches on the wireless, and reading any book, article, or magazine about Quidditch.

Private.
I wish they could get word to us. Like Tracey's mum did. I just want to know that they're still alive and not in Azkaban. I just hope they're far enough away.
End.

Poll time! Would you rather be rich and miserable or poor and happy?

I think I'd rather be poor and happy, because who would willingly want to be miserable?

Additional OOC Questions
Do you want your character to die in the Battle of Hogwarts: I'm on the fence about that at the moment.
Are there any of your character's family you'd like to offer up as war-related canon fodder?: His parents fled to Canada with his little sister to avoid his mother having to go through registration. They say it's because he's on a dig, but the timing is quite coincidental. If they'd be interested enough in trying to track down a muggleborn and her husband and daughter in Canada, they can definitely be cannon fodder. Or if they really want to lure Laura back (idk if they'd care that much?), I'm totally down with something happening to Geoff or one of his in-school sibs. :)
