Day Seven: Favorite Character You’ve Ever Made

Eric & Carissa Hawthorne

Yes, I’m slightly cheating and listing two instead of one. That’s because they were siblings that I played together in a PSL with a friend who was also playing a pair of siblings (Colin and Virginia Westin), and I just can't have one without the other. Part of why they’re my favorite characters is simply due to the long period of time in which we played them together: over the course of three or so years. It wasn’t all continuous, it was just off-and-on, whenever we both had time to play them, but we did so much with them. All four came in with their own baggage, and over the course of the three or so years, we dealt with some of that baggage and introduced all sorts of new baggage and angst and drama and such. And I just loved playing out all the drama in their lives as the four of them struggled between what they want and what they’re willing to give up for it, and what’s feasible and such. Love is just not enough to keep either pair (Eric and Ginny, Ris and Colin) together. Their lives will forever be linked, but they might never be able to work things out.

The Runners-Up:

(Left to right, top to bottom)
Davy Gudgeon (historie): Oh, Davy was SO MUCH FUN. He was crazy, trufax. I mean, this pretty much sums him up rather nicely. He was a nutjob, but a nice guy.
Aria Martinelli (m75): She was just so adorable. I will never ever forget the Ravenclaw Quidditch hazing, she actually believed everything and was freaking terrified. And ... just ... so sweet and adorable and her crush on Davey was just precious.
Margaret Kenmore (m75): I still think it’s so incredibly awesome, the dynamic that Alya and I got between Dimmy and Kenny. Even aside from the relationship, I really liked figuring out Margaret’s backstory and how that shaped her into the person she was
Sally-Anne Perks (EL): She was just ... wacky. Goofy. And she really loved Nate. But I loved her the most when I brought her back to EL after my RP hiatus, because I had to work out why she left, and why she came back, and that was just so much growth for her, and also for me as a writer.
Richard Stockton (psi): Rick just broke my heart. He was in a mutant game, and he was very vehemently anti-mutant because his daughter was killed when a Supervillain attacked the city, and his daughter’s death led to his estrangement and eventual divorce from his wife. He owned a deli and ended up living above it after they separated, and then his wife sold the house and moved to New York with their son, so he was pretty much entirely alone. :(
Eleanor Branstone (profs): Sooooooooo adorable. But she had her own tragic past, with her boyfriend’s death (and the fact that she slept with his brother at the wake), which made her gunshy when she developed a crush on the history professor.
Doyle Sullivan (FtH): Srsly, I just wanted to hug him 95% of the time and slap him upside the head 75% of the time. He was the first character I played who didn’t mind occasionally sleeping on the street, and despite the fact that he was a criminal, he was a good guy who would do anything to make his twin happy.
Michael Hopkins (hogwars): You might notice a slight trend to the characters with crappy histories. Michael was an abuse victim: his dad beat him a lot as a child. But instead of accepting this abuse and thinking that it’s normal to hit the ones you love, he swung in the completely opposite direction: he wouldn’t so much as lay a finger on anyone, no matter what they do, and he absolutely hated anyone who solved problems with their fists. And I just loved the opportunity to explore his issues that came with that history, such as him never telling anyone about it, because he didn’t want people to think that he’s like his dad, or that he’s a weakling.
