PERSONALITY:
It wouldn't be entirely fair to call Margaret a ditz ... but it wouldn't be entirely unfair, either. Meg has a habit of just plain not thinking and saying the first thing that pops into her head ... which is often a really stupid or ditzy comment. Whoever said that there's no such thing as stupid questions has clearly never met Margaret. Sometimes, after a particularly stupid question or comment, she'll realise what she just said and smack her forehead and bemoan her idiocy, but sometimes she'll just smile prettily because she really has no idea how stupid her question or comment really was. This also sometimes results in her being a bit tactless, though she doesn't do this on purpose, and she's not trying to be mean, it just comes out that way!

She is also quite trusting, gullible, and naïve. She will believe nearly anything that nearly anyone might say to her. The whole "did you know that the word gullible is written on the ceiling?" thing will work on her every single time. It's an almost endearing trait, and in a house of snakes, it has certainly been taken advantage of in the past, and will continue to be taken advantage of in the future. But despite the occasional tactlessness, despite the occasional ditziness, despite the gullibility, it's kind of hard to hate her because she's just so darned sweet!

... that is, until you get cards into her hands. Then, all bets are off. Meg has the ability to surprise absolutely everyone with the fact that she is a very skilled poker player. And not only that, but she cheats at cards (the skill is real, but she also isn't above stacking the deck or slipping out a hidden ace of hearts to guarantee her own win). Those who might play poker with her would do well to check her for hidden cards and chips, and to let someone else shuffle and deal. When she's playing cards is about the only time that Meg's ditziness and gullibility seem to disappear completely: she's got a pro poker face, and she even manages to not say anything stupid. It's almost like there's two different people: the regular, ditzy, gullible Meg, and the smooth, charismatic, card-shark Meg.

HISTORY:

• Terence Higgs and Tracey Davis only spent a year at Hogwarts together. Therefore, despite being in the same house, they had minimal contact. Tracey really only knew Terence as the house Quidditch team's seeker, and she was just another dinky first year to him.
  
• Years later, after the end of the war, Mr and Mrs Davis were desperate to make a good match for their daughter. Mr Higgs (Terence's father) and Mr Davis were recent business acquaintances, so they arranged for Terence and Tracey to be wed. While the start of their marriage was far from blissful (Tracey was a bit spoiled and wanted someone to treat her like a princess; Terence was disgruntled at the thought of being married so young), they grew to grudgingly respect each other, then eventually fell in love. More or less.
  
• About eleven years after they were married, they finally had a child: a daughter they named Margaret Lucille. Terence would have liked to have started having children sooner, but Tracey was still spoiled and didn't want her figure to be ruined by having children. Margaret was actually more or less an accident, but Terence was thrilled to finally have a child, and even Tracey didn't mind having a baby too much (though she swore she would never have another, and worked hard to burn off the baby weight and regain her pre-pregnancy body).
  
• From the start, Margaret was a daddy's girl. She had Terence wrapped around her little finger. Oh, she loves her mother, too, and wants to be as beautiful and elegant as Tracey Higgs, but she always saw her mother as more of a cold, distant woman. She spent more time either with the nanny or her father than with her mother.
  
• Meg (called Meggie by her dad and by Terence alone and is Margaret to her mother; to everyone else, she is Meg) was never all that interested in exploring outside. She much preferred to stay inside and practice the piano. The one exception to this was horseback riding: she really loves cantering around the family estate and jumping fences on horseback. Terence bought Meg her first pony when she was five, and has been riding her horse Alina (a beautiful gray Arabian) for three years now (a thirteenth birthday present). Alina is the one thing that Meg misses most when she's at school.
  
• Meg was, in many respects, your typical girly girl as a child. She liked to stay clean and pretty, she took the piano lessons that her mother insisted upon, and generally rode side-saddle when riding her pony and then horse, and she almost always wore skirts and dresses. But in one aspect, Meg was a bit boyish: her father taught her at a young age how to play and cheat at cards, primarily poker. Meg was fascinated with the game of cards, especially poker, and drank in everything that her father had to teach her about the game and about cheating at it, from how to bluff and tell if her opponents were bluffing, to how to hide cards on her body and slip them into her hand when needed.
  
• A few months after she turned eleven, Meg hugged her parents goodbye and boarded the train to Hogwarts, her new owl Hermes tucked safely away into his cage. As both of her parents had been Slytherins, that was the only house that Meg wanted to be in. The Hat hesitated for a while, looking inside her head to determine her house; it was ultimately Meg's desire to be in her parents' former house that got her sorted into Slytherin.
  
• Her early years at Hogwarts were rather typical and boring: owls sent home, care packages arriving from her parents. Classes, of course, though Meg was never all too interested in the academics side of things; she frequently needed tutoring from classmates in order to pass her classes. She wasn't dumb, she just never really paid attention in class, so she needed her classmates to fill her in.
  
• When the prank wars first started in her third year, Meg wasn't entirely sure what to think. It all seemed so ... messy. But as the year went on, she actually started enjoying the pranks ... from the sidelines, of course.
  
• Although she didn't realise it, her desire to be in her parents' former house might not have been the best decision. She didn't have the cunning of her housemates, and was more of a lamb in a pack of wolves, with her innocence and naïveté, her gullibility. Really, her one saving grace, the thing that kept her from being completely consumed by her housemates, was her card skills. The fact that she could beat her housemates at poker (even without cheating) gave her a little bit of status in her house. Maybe she did have a little bit of cunning after all.
  
• In her fifth year, her trusting-ness led to a major event in her life: the first time she had sex. It was with an older student, who convinced her that they were in love, and that all couples who were in love had sex. But unfortunately, shortly thereafter, he convinced her that they were no longer in love. Meg was heartbroken.
  
• Being how she was, though, Meg bounced back before long; though, for quite a while afterwards, she was unusually shy around blokes. Of course, one event hardly was enough to shake her innocence and tendency to be trusting of others.
  
• It was mostly through the help of friends that she managed to pass her OWLS at the end of fifth year, only outright failing History of Magic. The only classes that she did well enough in to continue on in NEWT level were Charms, Divination, Potions, and Astronomy.
  
• Now in sixth year, Meg is relishing having fewer classes, though she has little ambition for the future. She wouldn't mind working, but she'd rather find a man to sweep her off her feet and provide for her in the manner in which she is accustomed. That is to say, surrounded by pretty things.
